Explanation of technology from conventional, simple view

In the conventional view, the story is that people employ technologies as "simple tools for rather specific purposes, attempting to wrest new advantages over nature and to gain various economic benefits." That is the primary purpose.

The secondary "impacts" or "unintended consequences" are the social changes brought about by the technology.
